Being a part of Georgia Southern University's Housing employment team involves many perks as a student. One of the most important benefits includes GSU Housing's observation that you are a student first. This means that as a student employee, you will never be scheduled to work during a time that you have classes or more than 25 hours a week, ensuring that you will have plenty of time to be responsible to your first priority at Georgia Southern, your education. Georgia Southern University offers training sessions that are as interactive and entertaining as they are informative, preparing you for any situation that may arise on the job. Our student employees work closely with students as well as staff, providing a safe and friendly work environment. Working with Georgia Southern University Housing provides experience that will help you after college through learning responsibility, confidentiality, and time management, just for a start. Your experience working as a student employee will help you in the future because it indicates to employers that you are responsible, experienced, and capable.

Community Leaders main responsibility is just that- being a leader in the community in which they live. Community Leaders live on campus and are responsible for creating environments in which the residents feel safe and at home. One way that CLs create community is through executing events for residents in the hall and building. Community Leaders also have a responsibility to get to know each individual resident on their hall & ensure their well-being throughout the academic year. These student employees also have the responsibility to enforce GSU Housing policies, be a first responder in the event of an emergency situation, and act as a liaison between the residents and GSU Housing. Community Leaders work closely with both staff and students, with their main priority being to enrich the lives of the students living within their hall. These positions are usually posted in February for Fall positions, and in October for Spring positions. In addition, working with GSU housing in the position as a Community Leader guarantees you reserved housing, and while you may share an apartment (depending on your residence hall), you will always be able to choose whether you would like to share your bedroom. As a Community Leader, you also can choose whether you would like to apply your stipend to your housing payment (either eliminating or greatly reducing the cost of housing) or receiving it in payment.
Community Assistants are the first faces that students see when entering their residence hall. Community Assistants are stationed at the front desks of each residence hall during open hours. These student employees are responsible for assisting those that visit the desk, greet those who pass, and assist the residential staff as needed. Community Assistants are not required to live on campus, but are encouraged and invited to get to know the students and staff that live in the building.
Office Assistants work in the Central Office, Residential Education, and Residential Facilities to assist staff members with answering phones, filing, intracampus mail delivery, as well as performing office tasks and organization. Office Assistants are not required to live on campus, but have the opportunity to develop relationships with the professional staff in which they work with in their offices.
Peer Tutors work in the residence halls, usually during evening hours, and provide tutoring in various subjects for GSU students living on campus. It is important that a peer tutor be a role model both academically and socially, possess sensitivity towards students' academic needs, and have mastery over the subject in which they are tutoring. Peer Tutors are not required to live on campus, but are encouraged and invited to get to know the students and staff that live in the building.
Technology Assistants assist with web development and database management in the Housing Department. Technology Assistants are not required to live on campus.
