General Description
This University Housing staff member is responsible for the coordination of all services for five to seven residence halls of typically 300 - 600 students. The Hall Director actively trains, supervises and evaluates student staff while creating a community environment that’s conducive to the academic success and personal growth of each resident and consistent with the goals and objectives of Georgia Southern University.

Job Specifications/Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Higher Education Student Services, Counseling or a Related Field required.
- 2 - 3 years supervisory experience in a residence hall environment required.
- Required to live in an on-campus residential apartment provided by the University.
- A strong desire to work directly with college students.
- Demonstrated skills in the following areas: leadership, supervision, crisis intervention, group dynamics, flexibility, professionalism, and programming in a residence hall setting
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to physically lift 25 pounds and respond to emergencies in on-campus residence halls.
Remuneration
The Coordinator of Residential Education’s position is a twelve month position, minimum salary is $26,500. As living in a residence hall is required, a furnished apartment (valued at $450 a month) is provided at no additional cost. All utilities are provided, with the exception of long distance telephone service. A 5/1-meal plan will be provided so that you may eat with students in an on-campus location. State employee benefits package is also included.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Coordinator of Residential Education is responsible for implementing effective management practices in handling the day-to-day operations of the halls. Specific administrative duties include:
- Management and oversight of occupant assignments and records and the effective implementation of housing policy .
- Cooperation and coordination with all maintenance and custodial staff with the intent of assuring that the physical environment is maintained at an optimum level.
- Visitation of residence areas to ensure safety requirements are being met.
- General administrative management which includes the development, implementation and supervision of procedures for residence admission, submission of quarterly reports, handling area budget, and maintaining of regular office hours.
- Establishment of an environment conducive to the academic success and personal growth of each resident.
- Enforcement and education under supervision of an area coordinator of behavioral standards as outlined in the student conduct code, and consistent adjudication of university violations all within a timely manner.
- Close work with and management of student staff to develop a student governing agency which will coordinate educational, social, and recreational activities within an area.
- Supervision and assisting of five to fifteen student staff, possibly including a graduate director.
- Advisement of individuals and groups with personal, academic concerns, crisis situations, and professional referrals, as needed.
- Other duties, as needed.
