Housing Communities

At Georgia Southern, we have put a lot of thought and development into our residence hall communities. We have researched many different types of communities and realize the benefit of offering a variety of choices for students. The decision about how to rank your housing preferences should be based on several factors, including the amenities of each residence hall and projected costs. But in addition to the physical features and costs, you need to consider the different types of communities in the various residence halls. These communities range from structured, academically oriented communities to those that have no pre-determined community orientation and are organized based upon who is eligible to live there. Our communities are categorized into 3 different types:

First year students

These communities focus on the academic and social development of First Year Students and feature special sections of general curriculum courses reserved for members of the residence hall community. They are exclusively for first-year students (who will enter college in Summer or Fall 2007).

All students

These communities are open to students in all academic classifications. Some halls also have a particular theme which allows students with similar majors or other interests to live together.

Upperclass students

These communities are reserved for students who have already attended college for at least one academic term at GSU or another institution. Students who have credits through a Joint Enrollment program or through advanced high school coursework are not classified as Upperclass students for housing assignments.
